I wasn't much of a part of Dwight's life as a musician. When I was very young I took very serious lessons on the violin and clarinet. I never had any fun with it. In 1972 I moved to Colorado. Dwight came along and we shared an apartment in Wheatridge, Colorado where I remember Dwight, with a glass of orange juice, in the morning sun, on the balcony, gawing at the peacocks strutting nextdoor. We bought a house in the foothills of Denver, which had 2 cabins on the property. Dwight suggested that I try the drums. Always obedient, I did and REALLY had some fun learning how to at least keep a simple beat. We lived in a neighborhood where everyone played music. Dwight coverted one cabin into a "recording studio." He taught many of the locals, mostly twangy californians and mid-westerners, how to play driving "east-coast" rock and roll. When he returned to the east, the whole neighbor hood felt a loss!!!
I think that this site will evolve into a kind of biography of Dwight. Throughout the years, I occasionally met a friend that happened to share friendship and music with Dwight. But I would like to know how different people were connected. I met three guys that Dwight played with. I think they were the "Orbs" or "Orbiters." I would like to know there names and if anyone else knew or knows them. I remember meeting Bruce, but only recently found out that Bruce and Rick where very good friends. I assume then that Rick maybe met Dwight through Bruce. I know Oliver, and that he got together with Dwight many times over 30 years. But I don't know if Oliver knows anyone else that Dwight played with. I have a lovely recording of Dwight, Bruce, and Ron Hammond. Who is Ron Hammond? Did he know Bruce or Rick. How many other musicians did Dwight know as good friends that I don't know about? As the year goes on, we all would be very grateful to anyof you who can give us more details of Dwight's circle of friends. I want to do the same with many areas.
Dwight had one of those remarkable, mysterious musicians memories. By the age of 16 he could just simply repeat the words and chords to hundreds of songs! By the age of 25 it was probably in the thousands. I couldn't repeat what I'd had for breakfast! I was so jealous!
